The Atlantic roared as I walked the shoreline of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, its waves relentlessly reshaping the coast.
 
Along the water’s edge, a house came into view, its seaside charm intact, yet standing only yards from the advancing tide. It felt like an act of optimism bordering on defiance, a stand-off between human intent and natural force where the outcome seemed already written.
